Elemi is used in the manufacture of soaps, incense, varnishes and printing inks. It is also used in skin care products especially for mature skin, wrinkles and scars. History and Additional Information
Elemi is derived from the Arabic words for “above” and “below” and the word chryos, meaning gold. It exudes a natural resin with a green pungent odour which produces the essential oils. The Egyptians actually used the resin in embalming. Elemi oil balances the spiritual and emotional levels and aligns the chakras to the body. For this reason it is sometimes used for meditation purposes and as a stress reliever. In the 17th century JJ Wecker, a physician, successfully used it on the wounds of soldiers.
