History and Additional Information
The root of a plant called Saussurea lappa is known as Costus Root. Costus Root is as big as a human finger and has a yellowish tinge to its woody parts. In the past, costus root was cut into small sections, packaged and traded to China and Rome. Romans used costus root oil specifically as fragrance and a flavoring agent. Kashmiris used costus root oil to keep the moths from damaging the shawls and other cloth.
