This perennial herb is bushy and tender, it grows to around about sixty centimeters (twenty four inches) high, has a fuzzy stalk, the leaves are dark green and oval, and it displays small pink or white flowers. The shrub is known to have been given to the new bride and groom in Greek wedding ceremonies as a token of good fortune. It is a popular herb in Greece as well as being widely used in perfumery and medicine. It was used to mask foul odors as far back as the sixteenth century.
