History and Additional Information
Frankincense is considered as the holy anointing oil and was part of the ketoret used when preparing the consecrated incense used by the Roman Catholics. In ancient times it was used to fumigate the sick in order to remove the evil spirits that they believed caused diseases. However its tree population has continuously declined over the years especially due to over-exploitation thus making it quite an expensive oil. It grows well in only a few places in the world including southern Arabia, India and North Africa. In ancient Egypt the tree back was placed in the water to cleverly lure-in and trap fish in their nets. It also was used as an embalming ingredient.
