History and Additional Information
Cajeput essential oil is derived leaves of several Melaleuca species. These trees are widespread in the Malay area and also in northern Australia. Most oil production is from Sulawesi. The name “cajeput” comes from an Indonesian name meaning “white wood.”
Once the leaves dry out during a hot, arid day, they are collected, added to water and then macerated. They are then left to ferment over night.
The oil is prepared from leaves collected on a hot dry day, macerated in water, and distilled after fermenting for a night.
