Essential Oil for Bruises

Why do we bruise?

If you are as hard on yourself as I am, you probably look like a purple spotted dalmatian. Bruises occur when your body is hit by an object that causes surfaces capillaries to rupture and fill the inner dermal layers with blood. Discoloration while healing often leads the bruises to transform from red to purple to black and yellow.

If you are a woman, you probably know the annoyance of bruises better than anyone else. That’s because women typically have thinner skin and a different fatty-cell/vessel structure that makes them more prone to trauma. Additionally, some women have  a hormone imbalance which disturbs the copper/zinc ratio in the blood and weakens the collagen which protects the skin. As you age you are also more likely due to bruise more easily because of weakened vessels and thinning skin.

Luckily there are a few essential oils which are reported to reduce the swelling, discoloration and heal-time of bruises.
